On That First Night

Well, I am in New Orleans, staying at Camp Hope, with UVM Alternative Spring Break. This is an amazing place, the camp is plastered with murals of schools and groups that have come before use. Many of the messages are inspiring, while others are for people that didn't try. Camp Hope is an old school building that is right near the levees when they broke, and unfortunately children were inside when the disaster happened. Its eerie in some senses but redeeming in others. We haven't gotten out to work yet, however driving through the city was enough to show me and everyone I'm with why we came, this place is still a mess and will be for a long time. We sleep in cots, which I just wanted to get out there because I plan on sharing that experience as soon as the material has built itself into story length. I don't plan to document this whole trip, but if I do get the chance to submit some other quick posts, I will.
